A Sketchbook Journey in Tuscany!

September 22-29, 2025:
Tuscany Region

WAIT LIST ONLY

We decided to do something special in 2025, and invited our “alumni” retreat women to join us on two retreats we created in Italy!

The retreats sold out immediately and we are thrilled that it provided a connection for our alums to reconnect and also make some new friends. Like all of our retreats, both are all- inclusive experiences with the exception of travel and trip insurance. Some information about each retreat is below, and more information is available if you would like to be placed on a wait list.

La Dolce Vita in Le Marche!

(Wait List Only)

When: September  5-12th, 2025
Where: Hotel Leone, Le Marche Region

Come experience the tastes, sights, smells & wonders of Italy! Le Marche, in Central Italy, is what the Italians themselves refer to as ‘all of Italy in one region’ and remains one of the very few places which has escaped mass tourism despite it’s beauty and diversity. It is complete with medieval hill-top towns full of art and culture, an amazing coastline with hidden beaches, patchwork quilt countryside, stunning mountain ranges and much more – it really is a secret slice of Italy. If you have been to Italy recently, you will be reminded of what Tuscany and Umbria were like before they were discovered.

We’ll be staying in an historic palazzo nestled on the edge of a picture-postcard medieval hilltop village in the heart of Le Marche, within quick driving distance to seaside and hilltop towns.  Sitting elegantly between the Sibillini Mountains and the Adriatic Coast the Hotel Leone is a luxury boutique hotel that is just the right size for our 14 women. Originally built in the 15th century, we have the entire place to ourselves! The hotel owners specialize in retreats and create experiences that reflect their love of this region and it’s people. We’ll be busy every day with market visits, a hike in the mountains, learning how to make pasta from scratch, dinner and wine tasting at a local winery, and so much more! Madeline, the master organizer, puts all of the logistics in place for a seamless experience and her husband Tim is our fabulous chef.

All the FUN Things We Will Be Doing:

  • Pickup at Ancona Airport with a private driver. Arrival 3pm-ish - orientation and aperitivi at local bar with Madeline ,our hotel host. Our welcome meal is at our hotel. We will get to know each other a little better and review what the week has in store for us.

  • Breakfast at hotel. We will explore our town of Montelparo with a local guide, then have some time to wander at leisure. Lunch is back at the hotel. In the afternoon, we will meet three generations of one family, Nonna, her son and his daughter, who together run a local Agriturismo.  We will learn how to make pasta from scratch - tagliatelle and ravioli -which we’ll get to eat later as part of a four course meal prepared by the family.

  • Breakfast at hotel.  Morning at leisure/pool/yoga. In the early afternoon, we will have an excursion to the beautiful town of Ascoli Piceno, a town full of history as well as fabulous boutique shops, charming cafes and one of Italy’s most beautiful piazzas.  There will be a 2 hour guided tour and then we are free to wander on our own. Our special evening meal in Ascoli Piceno is Sabet’s birthday gift to the group- dinner is her treat! Ascoli Piceno is particularly lovely at night!

  • Breakfast at hotel. We will visit the beach town of Pedaso,  and shop in the vibrant  local market. After lunch at a beachside restaurant we will  return to our hotel  for some time to relax by the pool before our dinner at the hotel.

  • Breakfast at hotel. Our morning will start with a moderate guided hike to Foce di Montemonaco, an ancient shepherds' village nestled in a valley between the Monte Vettore and Monte Sibilla chains. This legendary mountain has attracted the attention of explorers and knights for over 1,000 years. We will enjoy lunch at a local agriturismo . Dinner tonight includes winetasting at a  local vineyard.

  • Breakfast at hotel.  We will enjoy a day  dedicated to celebrating the regional food and wine with a  Taste of Le Marche tour  (cheese, olive oil, farm visit).  This gastronomic ‘meet the maker’ experience involves a tour of three local artisanal producers including sampling fresh olive oil at a local mill, visiting  a local organic farm and a local cheese producer with a tour and tasting at each. We will end the day with pizza giro at a local restaurant. Our day includes transport and local guide/ translator.

  • Breakfast at hotel. Our final trip is to Fermo, a nearby town that many visitors describe as one giant museum because everywhere you turn you find an archeological relic going back to the Romans and Picentini people. The city is full of intriguing abbeys, medieval towers, gorgeous churches and centuries old palaces. The Piazza del Popolo is frequently mentioned as one of the most beautiful piazzas in the region. Lunch is not included today to allow everyone to explore Fermo at their own pace. Our farewell meal and celebration will be at our hotel.

  • Breakfast at hotel- departure back to Ancona to catch our return flights.

A Sketchbook Journey in Tuscany!

What better place to immerse yourself with art and adventure than in Tuscany! We will have the entire estate of Pieve di Caminino, a former medieval monastery, to enjoy and will be staying in individual apartments surrounded by olive groves and spectacular views. Our sketchbook journaling instruction takes place in the former 18th century church, now a museum, that is the heart of Pieve di Caminino. Our creativity will be fueled by walks around the extensive property and trips to nearby historic, hilltop towns with time to explore and sketch. Our creative experience in Italy would not be complete without dinners at vineyards and in local towns, a cooking class, wine tasting, visits to local markets, quiet reflection time by the pool, yoga classes overlooking the olive groves, and time to enjoy the company of creative, interesting women!
